Mission

Die Arbeitsgruppe Teilsammlungen Nord der Abteilung Genbank mit Sitz in Groß Lüsewitz und Malchow/Poel (beides Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) ist verantwortlich für die Sammlung, Erhaltung, Charakterisierung, Evaluierung, Dokumentation, Erforschung und Bereitstellung pflanzengenetischer Ressourcen der Kartoffel sowie von Öl- und Futterpflanzen. Wir leisten damit vor allem im Rahmen des Forschungsschwerpunkts „Erschließungskonzepte für Pflanzengenetische Ressourcen“ wichtige Beiträge zur Erweiterung der Genbank zu einem bio-digitalen Ressourcenzentrum.

Die Besonderheit der Sammlungen an beiden Nord-Standorten des IPK besteht darin, dass durch jahrzehntelange kontinuierliche Arbeit, insbesondere durch systematische Sammlungen und Materialtausch sowie durch ein Ressourcenmanagement nach internationalen Qualitätsstandards umfangreiche Sortimente zusammengetragen und erhalten wurden, welche zu großen Teilen die genetische Vielfalt der betreffenden Kulturarten und deren Verwandten widerspiegeln.

Die Aufklärung von sammlungsbezogenen Fragestellungen zur molekularen Diversität, zum Einfluss von kaltem Plasma auf die Samenkeimung sowie zur Nährstoff- und Wassereffizienz steht im wissenschaftlichen Fokus der Arbeiten; bezüglich des elementaren Pflanzennährstoffs Phosphor besteht eine enge Kooperation vor allem mit der Universität Rostock im Rahmen des Leibniz-Wissenschaftscampus Phosphorforschung Rostock.

Das Service-Ziel umfasst vor allem die Erhaltung und Beschreibung genetischer Ressourcen von Kartoffeln, Öl- und Futterpflanzen sowie die Bereitstellung der dabei gewonnenen Phänotypisierungs- und Evaluierungsdaten und der Akzessionen selbst. Zudem erfolgt eine kontinuierliche Optimierung der internen Abläufe des Erhaltungsmanagements nach DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.

Aktuell wird an den beiden Standorten Malchow und Groß Lüsewitz eine Modernisierung der Infrastruktur durchgeführt. Mit dem Ausbau soll die technische Infrastruktur der Bundeszentralen Ex-situ-Genbank dem neuesten Stand angepasst werden.
